Rugby collides with big oil
Small team, short time line and a very ambitious request from Studio Birthplace: Fill the stade de France with oil until it spills out of the roof.
Tim Smit and Matthijs Joor (Redivider) took on most of this job with just the two of them. Tim as the vfx producer/director + Oil simulations and Matthijs as the artist executing all of this madness.
We started by designing the virtual cinematography, using a real handheld camera to create all the moves. Tim used this layout to create the oil sims very efficiently. In the meantime, Matthijs built a system to populate the whole stadium, ingest the oil sims and render out each shot which helped to output 1 shot a day in the last weeks, leading to the finished product within 5 weeks total from start to finish.
No generative AI was used in this production.
