Narrative dark-ride sequence for a location-based attraction.
Following a successful collaboration on an interactive installation for Madurodam, director Matthijs Joor and the team at PostPanic were invited back to realize a much larger vision, The Flying Dutchman. The concept was beautifully ambitious. The plan required placing a real, full scale DC 3 airplane in the center of the park, lining the interior cabins with screens, and crafting a cinematic narrative dark ride that soaringly showcases the country’s rich heritage in art, technology, and landscape.
Our goal was to ground this massive spectacle in a sense of genuine wonder, ensuring that every technological triumph served the ultimate journey of the audience.
"The concept was beautifully ambitious. The plan required placing a real, full scale DC 3 airplane in the center of the park and crafting a cinematic narrative dark ride."
Bringing a bird’s eye view of the Netherlands to life inside a static fuselage required a unique directorial approach to VFX and cinematography.
To achieve the level of immersion needed, the story demanded an extraordinary 24K resolution. We partnered closely with camera specialists KIWI to engineer a bespoke, multi camera rig. After meticulous testing, our crew took to the skies and waters, capturing aerial footage during an intensive two day shoot spanning Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Zeeland, and Noord Holland.
Capturing and processing data at this scale is a formidable creative challenge. Translating that raw footage into a seamless, cinematic world required a deep understanding of both craft and scale. Led by CG Supervisor Dieuwer Feldbrugge, the team at PostPanic worked fluidly to develop custom pipeline techniques, balancing technical problem solving with strict adherence to the director's aesthetic vision.
The result is a shared triumph of directing, technical artistry, and collaborative problem solving, resulting in a high fidelity journey that remains an active centerpiece attraction.
If you want to experience the flight firsthand, The Flying Dutchman is currently boarding at Madurodam.
